The other key area of my scholarship and activism is sexual violence and ‘lad culture’ in higher education. This page brings together my body of work, produced since 2006 – use the links below to access.
I have written or co-authored a number of academic papers and book chapters on this topic, covering various aspects of ‘lad culture’, and how neoliberalism and marketisation frame harassment and violence in higher education. You can access these here (Open Access versions are freely available on this page).
I have co-authored several research reports: two with the National Union of Students, two as part of the pan-European Universities Supporting Victims of Sexual Violence project and two public reports on equality and diversity in UK universities. Access these here.
Many of my academic papers have started life as blogs on this site or others, and I have collected a list of these which can be accessed here.
I have been involved in producing a number of free resources for educators and activists tackling the problems of ‘lad culture’ and sexual harassment and violence in higher education. These include a workshop on ‘lad culture’, free disclosure training resources and a guide on making training more intersectional. Access these here.
I’m afraid I don’t do casework with individual survivors. But I have put together a page listing sources of advice and support in the UK – this includes organisations offering broad general support and more specialist services (for instance, for women of colour, sex workers and trans people). The list can be accessed here.
